PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Members, We are all looking forward to September's meeting! We have a great speaker, Mark Lipinski, who I'm sure will be wonderful. But do you want to know why a certain committee is really looking forward to September??? They're dying to get all your quilt applications for the show. REMEMBER - IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY FINISHED TO FILL OUT THE FORM! We are hoping, however, that filling out that form will give you that extra little push you need to get it done. And personally, I want to color in more lines on my chart, so let's get going! Got to run now. Lot's of sewing to do!

Sew long and happy,

Cathy

Be It So Noted:

The Guild's books for the calendar year May 2004 to May 2005 have been reviewed and reconciled to bank records by guild members Meryl Rewkowski, Mary Pagano, and Jane Romano in accordance with the guild's by-laws.

COMMUNITY SERVICE NEWS

Have you been quilting during the heat wave? We hope so because it¹s never too hot (or too cold) to quilt. Isn¹t that right? How about making your community service quilt before the holidays are upon us? If you think they¹re a long way off, it¹s not so. In less than three months we¹ll be in the throes of preparing for Thanksgiving and then the Hanukkah and Christmas frenzy sets in. So, this may be the best time to devote to our cause. We¹ve gotten off to a rather slow start but we know we can count on you.

Here are the names of our August stars: Carmen Caldeiro, Brenda Gold, Judy Klein and Loretta Ruff, who turned in two quilts, one afghan and 12 wheelchair bags. Many thanks, thanks ladies.

Raffle Quilt

The guild would like to take this opportunity to thank Jean Nalaskowski of Creative Quilting for machine quilting our raffle quilt. Jean runs a professional machine quilting business and comes highly recommended. her e-mail address is Jean698@AOL.com. She is located at 16 Howe Road, Coram NY 11727.

New Quilt Shop

A new quilt shop by the name of The Quilt Bug will be celebrating its Grand Opening on September 10th. It is located at 30C Broadway in Massapequa which is at the corner of New York Avenue: one block north of the Massapequa train station. The phone number is 516- 541-8600.

Member Advertisements

Any guild member who would like to place an ad in the Cuts From the Bolt relating to quilting or craft items may do so by contacting Meryl Rewkowski at email address mamarewk@aol.com. The cost is $5.00 per insertion with a maximum of 40 words; $.05 per word thereafter.

VENDORS WANTED

The Cow Neck Historical Society of Port Washington is looking for vendors for their COUNTRY FAIR. They want homemade items only, such as quilting, crochet, knitting, any craft items, etc. The fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10th from 10:00am to 4:30pm at the Sands Willet House at 336 Port Washington Blvd, Port Washington. Fee for space is $35 and if you need a table they will rent you one for $10. Why not share a table with a friend. If you are interested please contact Vinny Ressa @ 627-3929. Tell him you are from Evening Star Quilters.

Quilt Show Volunteers

Please make sure you see Ellie Pucciariello at the September meeting to sign up for the time period you are available to provide your volunteer service. In addition to the usual quilt show assignments, we will need a number of volunteers for daytime Friday, October 21st to assist the quilt show judge. If you do not sign up at the September meeting, please call Ellie (516-628-2747) to commit your time to the guild.

Correspondence

A lovely thank you note was received from Lynn O'Neil for the flowers sent in acknowledgement of the loss of her husband.

Raffle Quilt Update

Come see! Come see! Our raffle quilt is ready for viewing at our Sept 1 general meeting. It was beautifully machine quilted by Jeanne Nalaskowski of Creative Quilting. You'll want to get close to see how the applique sections inspired her design.

Thanks again to all who worked with me on the quilt: Marie Abrucci, Betty Belford, Marge Geary, Barbara Hull, Ellie Pucciariello, and Alice Tritschler. And special thanks to Helen Darvie who squared up our queen sized quilt and showed me how it's done.
